Art Therapy Concert Options:

The Acoustic Memory Project

Original music and spoken word recounting the early days of art therapy in America and the formation of the American Art Therapy Association.  With each passing year there are fewer of us who actually sat in the room with Don Jones, Elinor Ulman, Edith Kramer, or Bob Ault (among others). The aim of this work is to present history in the oral tradition of folk music.

Voices from Nowhere

Original music and poetry giving voice to people who are often marginalized in society.  People suffering mental illness, the homeless, the disenfranchised, and the poor.

Four Lives: Welcome to the Studio

A performance blend of original music, poetry, and spoken narrative in order to present experiences of three art therapy clients and an art therapist working in the studio.  Sara, an angry adolescent, John, a middle-aged man struggling with addiction, and Lenore, an elderly woman facing the end of her life.  Each has a story to tell through art.

New Work

I am striving to live my life as an on-going art piece.  And so, I am continually writing new music to add to my repertoire.

Conversation

Following each concert there is an opportunity for informal conversation with Bruce about his 42-year career, his art and music, and the art therapy profession.

Cost: Negotiable, ($800.00 minimum) plus travel expenses.

Testimonials

“Our students were so excited to meet a beloved art therapist and visionary in the field. Bruce played music for us and later answered questions for our graduate students. His music and presence were so inspiring and reminded all of us of the power of human connection and art making. Having Bruce here was refreshing and fulfilled all of us with renewed energy for the creative process.”                                                       Katherine Jackson, Ph.D., ATR-BC

Our students were delighted to hear some of the stories they had read and many other clinical vignettes come to life in song.  They especially relished hearing tales of the early days and personalities of the profession.  Through song they gained new insights and understanding about art therapy, further reinforcing the core belief that the arts help us live, grow and thrive!     Jennifer Schwartz Mrazek, MAAT, ATR-BC, ATCS

“It was such an honor to be in Bruce’s presence and create art with everyone. Bruce holds space as beautifully as I imagined!”
